3 years ago 1990 Porsche 944 S2 Convertible
Unveiled at the 1981 Frankfurt Show, the 944 was an instant hit. Utilizing what was effectively half a 928 engine. The 944 was Porsche’s most successful car line in Porsche history until the introductions of the Boxster and 997 Carrera. In 1989 the 944S2 was introduced, powered by a (155 kW; 208 hp) normally aspirated, dual-overhead-cam 16-valve 3.0 L. The 944S2 had the same rounded nose and a rear valance found on the Turbo model. Barely any slower than the Turbo in 'real-world' driving conditions, the S2 handles beautifully in classic front engine/rear wheel drive style. The 944 S2 Cabriolet, a first for the 944 line that featured the cabriolet body built by ASC-American Sunroof Company at Weinsberg Germany. The first year of production included sixteen 944 S2 Cabriolet for the U.S. market. For the 1990 model year, Porsche produced 3,938 944 S2 Cabriolets for all markets including right-hand drive units for the United Kingdom, Australia and South Africa. The aim of the car was to provide a luxurious long distance cruiser as well as an exciting powerful road car. Any 944 is a good and effortless performer. It’s just that some models – the 944S2 with its meatier 3-litre engine, turbo brakes and better gearing in particular – are more outstanding than others. The 944’s charms are apparent from the excellent weight distribution, which earned it handling accolades when new, to the nostalgic traits of German build quality—evident even in the soft click when you close a door—that simply aren’t found in newer Porsches, the 944 is a reminder of a special period in Porsche’s history. Add to that 2+2 practicality and a spacious rear hatch, and the 944 is a classic you can use daily. For people wary of 911's habit of swapping ends if you lifted off during hearty cornering, and who are fazed by their ever spiraling prices, the 944 remains the pragmatic and penny-wise way to own a Porsche. The car has certainly led a pampered life, with all plastics, rubbers and surrounds showing no signs of corrosion whilst the roof is spotless with a clear rear screen. The seats retain excellent comfort and support, whilst pleasingly all carpets and gearbox surround are free from any unsightly marks or stains. As for the engine bay itself, presentation is similar to both exterior and interior; very clean, very tidy and with no signs of abuse. The original service book states this S2 was manufactured on the 9 November 1990.A fully stamped service book further bolsters the provenance of this wonderful example.

3 years ago 1970 Volkswagen Other Convertible
The pretty Volkswagen with the funny name--Karmann Ghia--was for 19 years the automaker's sporting flagship. The Karmann Ghia would continue to evolve in the early 1970's, gaining displacement and horsepower as well as larger turn indicators and tail lamps and sturdier bumpers a glass rear window replaced the former plastic version on the convertibles. No longer cheap, but still cheerful, the Karmann Ghia still is "The Most Beautiful Volkswagen Made." The example that we have for sale has had a complete restoration. The vehicle retains its original 1600cc motor which has been completely refurbished-excellent heater boxes and exhaust all original and completely sorted. The interior, seats, side panels, carpets and dash liner have been redone in the original period styling. The body has been refurbished in the proper colour together with all new body seals. The under carriage cleaned and coated with bed liner to ensure protection going forward. The roof is brand new and comes with a full set of instructions and cover. Convertibles are extremely Rare in South Africa especially in the condition of this example.
